Jornal de Negócios contacted several labour lawyers to find out how the current international economic situation, which includes the ongoing trade war, will impact the labour market in Portugal and whether or not we will soon see an increase in redundancies and lay-offs.
In the case of the EU and Portugal, emphasises Félix Bernardo, ‘some companies may feel the impact [of] trade disputes, especially those that depend on foreign markets’. According to the lawyer, ‘the imposition of tariffs and instability in the prices of raw materials can increase production costs, which puts pressure on the profitability and viability of the companies themselves’.
